The 2021 Motorcycle Cannonball will officially start Thursday, September 9 in Sault Ste. Marie! Visit Aune Osborn Campground for a staging photo session and the waving of the green flag. Riders will begin to arrive at 3 p.m. on over 100 antique motorcycles.

The border-to-border classic motorcycle race’s inaugural Cross Country Chase spinoff was previously in the Soo in 2019. This year, following Sept. 9’s ceremonial photo opportunity, riders will officially begin their rally from the Valley Camp Museum Ship on Friday, September 10.

Spectators can watch riders take the ceremonial green flag at Aune Osborn Campground starting at 4:10 p.m. Six classes will take the honorary starting flag in five minute intervals beginning at 4:10 p.m.

The official start time Sept. 10 will be at 9:30 a.m. with heats released every 10 minutes until 10:20 a.m. They’ll then make their way all the way across the country to South Padre Island, Texas.

This nearly 2,000 mile trek is meant to be the most difficult antique motorcycle race in the world. All of the competing bikes must have been manufactured before 1930. The previous event in the Soo required all of the motorcycles to have been manufactured between 1930 and 1960.

Spectators will be able to see the motorcycle staging free of charge before the classic bikes embark towards the Lone Star State. The grand finale for the event is expected to take place on September 26 in South Padre Island, Texas.
