First Friday with Brenda Strack at 1668 Winery
100 W Portage Ave
Sault Ste Marie, MI 49783
Brenda Behling Strack grew up in the Soo but has lived in rural Wisconsin for the past thirty years. She moved back to town in November of 2016, started renovating an old house and while doing so, rediscovered her passion for art, most specifically, her passion for painting. Walls and ceilings of course, but why not carpets and furniture too? Her Victorian home became a canvas for self expression. By the time the third floor/attic renovations began she knew she had found the perfect inspirational space and so her Art "Studio 724" came to be. She has a very eclectic range of subject matter including florals, fish, chickens, but has had a recent main focus on the architectural and natural landmarks surrounding the Soo. These wonders include the Edison Building and the International and Mackinac Bridges as well as the scenic Great Lakes. "I don"t think I appreciated how unique and beautiful the Soo was while growing up here but coming back as an adult, I have become truly infatuated with the U. P. I have opened my eyes and gotten out my paints," She describes her art as a loud whimsical twist on what is quiet and seriously beautiful.
The public is welcome to take the opportunity to meet her and discuss her work during the reception to be held on the 7th from 5-7pm, as well as enjoy appetizers courtesy of the establishent.
