Sault International Marathon
Join up to 500 runners as part of the 4th Annual Sault International Marathon on Saturday, September 27, 2014! Now in its fourth year, the Sault International Marathon provides runners with a unique opportunity to traverse the Sault Ste Marie International Bridge and run alongside the St. Mary's River all set against the backdrop of beautiful fall foliage and cool E.U.P. temperatures.

This year we will be recognizing Full and Half Marathon runners that have participated in the Sault International Marathon for all 5 years! Congratulations to all of those that have participated and completed your races for five consecutive years with the Sault International Marathon.
Registration & Transportation
Runners can register at Kewadin Casino of Sault Ste Marie and collect their racing bibs and other materials at the Sault International Marathon Expo on Friday, September 26 from 4 - 8 pm. Race day registration and bib pick-up at the LSSU Norris Center will also be available for all of the race formats from 5:30 am - 7:00 am.
All races will start on the campus of Lake Superior State University at the Norris Center with the finish lines located in downtown Sault Ste. Marie at City Hall on Historic Water Street.
Transportation will be available to bring runners back to the starting line at the LSSU Norris Center.
All marathoners (including half-marathon) will receive a custom designed Moisture Management Technical shirt. Bridge Run and 5K participants will receive a Sault International Marathon cotton t-shirt. Please mark appropriate size on your registration form and note that shirts are not guaranteed if you register after September 1st.
The average high temperature at this time of year is 61°F, and the average low is 42°F. The race will continue in any weather conditions, however, lightning may prevent us from running the International Bridge. In the unlikely event (the Sault area rarely experience thunder & lightning storms in September), of lightning we will redirect the race to exclude the International Bridge.
Full and Half-Marathon
Full and half marathons will start at 7:15 a.m. The full and half-marathon are an out and back course which includes the International Bridge and continues along the river front in historic Sault Ste. Marie. The course is primarily fast and flat, with the exception of inclines on the International Bridge, and provides many scenic vistas throughout. The marathon is officially certified by USATF, number MI12045SH.
There will be water stations along the course placed approximately every 1.7 to 2 miles. Aid stations and electrolyte beverages will also be along the course. Absolutely no roller blades, pets, wagons or other wheeled vehicles will be allowed on the course.
The bridge run will start at 7:30 a.m. The bridge run is 6.6 miles and is an out and back course which includes the International Bridge and continues on Portage Ave to Water Street and finishes at City Hall. The 5k will start at 7:45 a.m. Please note the 5K route does not include the International Bridge and is actually 3.1+ miles, slightly longer than a standard 5k.A 5K course map is available by clicking on the highlighted link. Special thanks to Girls on the Run for coordination of the Chase 5K.
Entry Fee is non-refundable and non-transferable.
Registration fees are non-refundable and non-transferable for any reason. Sorry, no exceptions. Once we receive your entry, you will not receive a refund. If you cannot participate, you may not give or sell your number to anyone else. If you are registered for the marathon you may transfer to the half-marathon (if you registered for the marathon before the half-marathon fills) or Bridge Run without any refund of the difference. You can also transfer from the half-marathon to the Bridge Run without a refund of the difference. There is a $20.00 fee to transfer races.

Finisher medals are awarded to all finishers with the top three finishers in each age group receiving awards designed specifically for our event - a little piece of the International Bridge! All other participants will receive a finisher’s medal. Medals are not guaranteed if you register after September 1st. There will be male and female categories in each of the following age groups: 0-9, 10-15, 16-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75+.
Chase Expo and Registration
Registration for the Sault International Marathon will take place from 4 - 8 pm at Kewadin Casino in Sault Ste Marie on Friday, September 26. In addition to registering and collecting your race bib, there will be a large course map, additional race information, and race vendors. Runners can also register on race day starting at 5:30 am. Online registration will close at 3 am on Thursday, September 25, but in-person registration will be available Friday night or Saturday morning.
Parking for the Sault International Marathon is available in lots A and B at the James Norris Physical Education Center of Lake Superior State University. You will need to walk a short distance to the starting location.
Join us for Oktoberfest!
After completing the Sault International Marathon, join us in downtown Sault Ste Marie for the 12th Annual Oktoberfest! Oktoberfest is an opportunity to spend time in downtown Sault Ste Marie to relax and unwind while shopping local food, arts, and crafts vendors; participating in family fun activities; and taking in local pubs and restaurants, including our very own Soo Brewing Company.
Yes, we are running the International Bridge; however, we are NOT entering Canada. Our route turns around prior to passing through Canada Customs. Because we are not entering Canada, you do NOT need to provide a passport or other travel documents to verify citizenship. Please note that no one is allowed on the Bridge without a runner's bib. U.S and Canadian Customs Officials will be on hand to ensure all participants follow the route and no one enters the race from the Canadian side of the bridge.
