August 14th-17th
The Michigan Walleye Tour will be holding their 2008 state championship event on the scenic St. Mary’s River and will be headquartered out of the beautiful community of Sault Ste. Marie on August 14-17. This will be the 13th year the M.W.T. will hold such an event and the fifth time they have visited the St. Mary’s River.
The state championship will consist of 36 teams who earned enough points to qualify them for a chance to be crowned the best walleye angler in the state of Michigan. The St. Mary’s River and it’s numerous channels and bays pose unique challenges for the fishermen and will challenge their skills and knowledge. A variety of techniques are sure to be utilized to coax those elusive walleyes into biting. Techniques will range from live bait presentations with spinners, to open water trolling with crank baits, and jigging.Â
The M.W.T. is owned and operated by the Saginaw Bay Walleye Club and is made possible through the support of their great sponsors including: Lund Boats, Mercury Marine, Trailmaster Trailers, Minn Kota, Humminbird, Walt’s Crawler’s, Mack’s Lures, Labadie Auto Group, Frank’s Great Outdoors, Teton Rods, Linwood Beach Marina and Campgrounds, Lindy’s Sales, Advance Tex Screening, Woods –n-Waters News, Walleye Central, Reef Runner, Chapman’s Sport Center, Stow Master Nets, Church Tackle, Precision Angling, and Navionics.
