Information Needed to Apply For a Marriage License:

  • Full Names of Applicants

  • Date of Birth

  • Age

  • Current Address

  • County You Currently Live In

  • Number of Times Previously Married

  • City and State Each Applicant Was Born

  • Parents Full Names (Including Mother's Maiden Name)

  • State Each Parent Was Born In

  • Social Security Number for Each Applicant

  • 1 Party Must Be Present

  • If either applicant has been previously married, we need the Judgment date of their last divorce.

The process to file an application for a marriage license in Michigan requires residents must apply in the county of residence of one of the applicants. Nonresidents must be married in the county where they make application. If one of the applicants is a Chippewa County resident and the other is not, the Chippewa County resident must apply. The applicant must provide a Michigan driver's license or Michigan identification card, which reflects their current address. Both applicants must be 18 years of age. Applicants 16 and 17 must have parental consent, a certified copy of the applicant's birth certificate, and a valid driver's license or state ID. The license is valid for 33 days from date of application.

The fee is $20.00 for Chippewa County residents and $30.00 for out-of-state residents, payable at the time of application. There is a three-day waiting period from the day you apply before the license may be picked up. Social security numbers are required from both applicants.
