HOW TO LOCK THROUGH

The U.S. Corps of Engineers would prefer that recreational boats use the Canadian Lock, but you may use the U.S. Lock if you choose. The Canadian Lock is smaller, less intimidating, and will provide you with a faster transit.

The Canadian Lock is open from 11:30 AM to 7:30 PM to start the season, and then goes to 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM in late June. The U.S. Locks are open 24 hours. There is no charge for either lock, and there is no customs involvement if you intend to simply pass through the Canadian Lock.

Both Locks monitor VHF Channel 14. Simply contact them on the radio and they will instruct you what to do. Call “Canadian Canal” or “American Lockmaster,” depending on which you have selected. If you wish to lock through so you can say that you have, we recommend locking upriver through the Canadian Lock and downriver through the U.S. Lock.

NEED TO KNOW

Checking with Customs is easy, depending on what lock you choose to lock through. Fishing, swimming, and/or diving anywhere in the marina basin is forbidden. Fishing is permitted off the north (riverside) face of the public access boardwalk.

The buildings and grounds of the Kemp Marina are smoke-free. If you must smoke, please do so on your boat. Smoking is not permitted on the docks.
