Calendar of Events

The purpose of The Sault Events, Inc. is to create events that will attract tourists and future residents to the local area and to attract community members to this area to enhance our quality of life. The group will develop working relationship with various organizations, non profit groups, service clubs and businesses with the goal of promoting community prosperity.

Area maps of interest are located in various sections of our Web site. We have our Lodging Map above, Day Trips from the Soo, Shopping and Attractions Maps available for your convenience.

“All Things Coiled” @ Alberta House

JUNE EXHIBITS IN ALBERTA HOUSE

“All Things Coiled”, the coiled fiber creations of Sugar Island summer resident Janet Bonnell, will be in the Alberta House Mini Gallery June 1 through 30.  Janet, who began making coiled pine needle baskets in 2004, is now turning out graceful, sinuous, free form sculptures of coiled natural materials as well.  Recent awards include the Sault Summer Arts Festival Best of Show Award in 2013 and First Place in Fine Art in Cheboygan in 2014.  This year she was one of five finalists for the national Niche Award in Basketry.  Her work can be seen on her website:  www.pineywoodsbasketart.com.

Alberta House is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 217 Ferris Street, just half a block south of the Soo Locks Visitors Center in Sault Ste. Dear Friends of Local Foods:

It is Spring and the Farmers’ Market is back! Wednesdays from 4:00-6:30, come downtown to catch up with your favorite vendors, and meet some new ones!

It will be a busy market with 20+ vendors providing spinach and other early produce, frozen chickens, maple syrup, eggs, baked goods, starter plants and lovely craft items.

June 15th – Soo Theatre Project
The official mission of Soo Theatre Project, Inc. is to sponsor, encourage, and create opportunities for participating in and appreciating the arts. The Soo Theatre Project, Inc. enriches the quality of life in our area by bringing talented entertainers, local artists, and quality events to the historic Soo Theatre stage.

June 22nd – Steeltown Silver Band
Voice and brass come together to provide matchless sounds that can only be heard with the Steeltown Silver.

June 29th – Pub Runners
The Pub Runners have charmed audiences from Northern Michigan to Florida with their fun combination of Irish music, folk music and sing alongs.

July 6th –Gentleman George
Traditional country, folk music, and original songs.

July 13th –Blue Water Ramblers
The Blue Water Ramblers’ repertoire of folk music comes right out of our Michigan life experiences and the history of the Great Lakes region.

July 20th – The Band Brooks (formerly Bittermoon)
Classic Rock, Country, and variety hits

July 27th– Petoskey Steel Drum Band
The Petoskey Steel Drum Band consists of over 35 high school students. They have performed in the Caribbean, Mardi Gras (7 times!), Epcot, Disney World, Hawaii, San Juan, St. Thomas, and many parades and concerts all over the state of Michigan. They put on a very fast pace and energetic performance, which is suitable for all ages and musical tastes.

August 10th –Lise White and Friends
Wide Variety of popular music and original songs.

August 17th- The Snyders
Blues music, roots music, family band, Blues guitar.

August 24th – The Country Classics Dance Band
The band was formed in 2010 and create a great sound.

August 31st – The Cookies
The Cookies are a hot new dance pop group out of Northern Michigan, specializing in Motown, oldies, funk and top 40.

The orchestra has performed in all 50 United States, as well as throughout Europe, Australia, Iceland, New Zealand, Guam, the Philippines, South and Central America. Of course, all of the biggest hits are included in a regular program.
